The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 Friday night at the ShoWare Center. The Rebels (29-21-4-2) got out to a 1-0 lead 3:56 into the first period when Rhyse Dieno scored from the slot. Dominik Volek and Mathew Dumba had the assists.

Paid medical leave for new parents may remain an unfulfilled goal if a bill in the state Senate becomes law. Senate Bill 5159, sponsored by Sen. John Braun (R-20th District, Chehalis), would repeal Washington's Family and Medical Leave Insurance Act (FLI), which requires employers to pay $250 per week to employees who are on family leave.

Sound Publishing buys Everett Daily Herald

Sound Publishing Inc., owner of the Kent Reporter and many other Puget Sound area papers, announced Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with the Washington Post Company to acquire the Everett Daily Herald, a 46,000 circulation daily and Sunday newspaper, along with its other print and online products. The transaction is expected to close in early March.
